Unification talks begin in Equilism

Westwind, the tyrannical leader who came to power via a military coup in October, has publicly announced that steps are being taken to reunite the region of Equilism with its ‘sister’ region, The Commonwealth of Equilism, which was founded by the exiled former government.

Westwind, who announced on 13th December that he had granted a member of the exiled government, Chaucerin, access to the founder nation, had previously ruled Equilism with an iron fist and was reluctant to even discuss the coup before this announcement.

Stating that the region ‘need[ed] leadership with purpose [and] Leadership that ensures the survival and progress of the region’ Westwind placed Equilism under martial law, ejecting several members of the official government, including the elected President, Neo-Conservatism. Despite numerous objections to the ‘Imperial Government’ over the ejections and the enforced dictatorship, Westwind continued to state that ‘It is my responsibility to ensure the well-being of the region, a responsibility that I take seriously. We have been falling into obscurity, and our discussions have been like a hamster in it's wheel; going nowhere.’

Within hours of the Coup, condemnation began to rain down on Westwind and his Imperial Government, with the likes of Canada and Genosha ceasing all relations with the region.

Both Neo-Conservatism and WestWind have heralded theses new talks however as the beginning of a new era for Equilism, which have been reported as being ‘respectful, productive and progressive.’ One of the more controversial issues however, which has already been raised is the fact that no members of the Imperial Government who organisaed the coup, will be punished for their acts. Neo-Conservatism stated his belief that he’ always thought their actions were an aberration and that they would eventually come to see their mistake.’ He went on to admit that he still had great respect for many of the members of the Imperial Government and that ‘The last thing we need are a bloody series of trials assigning blame’

The announcement however did not come without conflict, with Restored Othalla questioning what the Government in Exile had ‘gave up’ in order to help these talks along, ‘until now the only one who seems to have been giving is Imperial Equilism. Your status was returned to YOU, YOU got your ban lifted and YOU got control over the Founder Nation. Now I would like to ask what haveYOU been giving, because so far you have only been taking.’

Despite certain quarrels between members and visiting diplomats, its hoped that Equilism will soon return to its ‘classical self’, a region which supports equality for all.

Large Engagement on the deserts of Iraq.

Three nights ago, a coalition of defender forces moved in to the region of Iraq following reports from the FRA Invasion Warning Centre of mass movements of puppets in that area. Chin-Chilla’s of the Founderless Region Alliance, was quick to notify the FRA Rangers and quickly organised a point man for the mission, which was later confirmed to be Dipes, joint RLA/FRA trooper.

Early reports had indicated that this was to be a small operation, similar to previous engagements of that night, and those before it, due to the early movements of invader forces. This was soon proved to be false however, as the numbers of invaders soon rose to 20 nations, forcing the FRA to call upon its members from the Peaceian Liberation Force and the Jethnea Regional Guard respectively.

The battle continued for many hours, forcing the leaders of the defender coalition, which included organisations such as the ADN and RLA as well as regions including Cingeta, to call on help from none militaristic regions for help, such as Priory of the Sun.

During the battle reports started to come in that the mercenary group, The Great Green Federation, had moved in to help its ally ‘Land of King and Emperors’ in the invasion. Despite leaning more towards the defensive side of the invader/defender ‘war’, The Great Green Federation was forced to enter this conflict with the invaders due to a signed treaty which forces the signatories to help each other in times of ‘war’. The Great Green Federation is known to have the same principles as the FRA, which is to help rebuild regions that have been decimated due to other events, so this event was seen as a blow to the coalition.

The defence was not without its twists and turns however, as half way through the battle, the invader group, RCCA, lost half of its members who were ejected from the UN due to rule violations. This boosted moral within the defender camp, while sources within the invader groups stated that the leaders there were furious over the rookie mistake, which eventually cost them the region. Following this, one last call was made to all defensive regions to send in whoever they could in order to secure the Iraq once and for all, with the ADN and Zurich sending in a number of UN troopers within the hour. This led to a lead being established by the defenders, until it ended 74-47 in the defenders favour.

One last twist however saw the defeated invaders from Iraq move to the recently liberated region of Valhalla to try and reinstate the invader delegate there. This move proved to be futile however as the region had updated only minuets before.

Intelligence reports indicated that the original invaders of Iraq, Land of King and Emperors, had called on their allies using false information in order to gain their help. They stated their belief that the defender organisations, The Red Liberty Alliance, were invading Iraq in order to spread their influence and their political ideology throughout Nationstates. This was strongly denied by the coalition, which indicated that it was not the RLA’s operation, but was the FRA’s so therefore it could not be classed as a politically driven defence.

In what can only be described as one of the largest battles since the infamous Palestine engagement, this battle was noted as containing imperialistic regions rather then the usual invader groups. Regions such as Land of King and Emperors, Great Britain and Ireland, as well as Empires of Earth, who are all known for their imperialistic attitudes, and it has been seen by many as a worrying sign of the times in Nationstates. For so long, invaders had been fought by defenders over a region, which was soon let free if the defenders could not liberate or defend the place, however now there is a real danger that if regions like Iraq are not kept free, they may forever fall into the grasp of imperialistic regions.

Over the last few weeks, it has been seen that the once dormant defenders have risen once again and are ready to battle invaders, raiders and imperialists, wherever they may be. It is hoped, with the introduction of the Founderless Regions Alliance, that the regions which are defended so ferociously by all are also rebuilt by all as well in order to try and prevent them from falling into imperialistic arms.

ADN to be disbanded

Following a summer of high inactivity, rumours have started to circulate about the future of Nationstates oldest and largest defender organisation, the Alliance Defence Network.

It is rumoured that Pope Hope, Director of the ADN, has announced plans to disband, and then refound the organisation under a different name, in order to ‘Bring life back into the defender world, and to once again unite freedom loving nations under one banner’

Founded in the summer of 2003 in response to the Atlantic Alliance invader group, the ADN has become one of the most well known and influential organisations to have graced NS. Despite consisting of a number of high profile member regions, including The Youngworld, The Rejected Realms and Nasicournia, the organisation has had its fair share of critics, who often state that despite their size, they can be quite incompetent out on the field. Others state that the only thing the ADN really care about is to expand their political influence across NS, which has dwindled following their bout of inactivity this last year.

These concerns have been echoed by a number of different nations, ranging from raiders to defenders, who have stated that The ADN are all about expanding their power and influence, wanting more puppet regions to add to their collection.

Pope Hope has stressed however that this new organisation will be different due to more emphasis being placed upon regional and national sovereignty, allowing nations to be as active or inactive as they wish, with all military matters being kept under sole control of the regional leaders. She has stated that the new organisation will be ‘more of a pooling of information and resources’

However questions have been raised as to how this new organisation will be any different to its predecessor if the current members of the ADN are the ones who are set to create it.

The idea has been universally slammed by many critics of the ADN as just a cover and that nothing will change, with many just seeing it as a re-branded version of the ADN, however its supporters are of the opinion that this will be an opportunity to begin again.
